KINDERGARTEN INFO & ENROLLMENT

WE ARE SO EXCITED YOU ARE CONSIDERING NEW SUMMIT FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE! WE KNOW WHAT A BIG DECISION THIS IS, SO WE ARE HERE TO WALK YOU THROUGH EVERY STEP.

ENROLL YOUR FUTURE KINDERGARTENER

Kindergarten is a full-day program that helps prepare for your child’s first school experience. The skills and knowledge learned in kindergarten lead to increased school success, healthier relationships, and improved emotional wellness. Kindergarten also provides early and solid foundations for literacy and math, the most significant predictors of future academic achievement.

Children who attend high-quality kindergarten programs are less likely to be held back a grade and are more likely to graduate from high school. Additional benefits of kindergarten include:

  • Learning safe risk-taking, which develops confidence and independence
  • Becoming part of a team and learning to problem-solve
  • Fine-tuning their executive functioning skills such as self-control, regulating emotions, memory, cognitive flexibility, organization, self-reflection, and focus
  • Making connections and friendships
  • Exploring curiosities and expanding personal experiences, which provides context for future learning

WHAT IS THE KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION PROCESS?

Complete the waitlist application form.

Once acceptance is determined, a conditional seat offer will be sent to your email with instructions on registering with Academy District 20. From the date you get your letter, you have ten business days to register with D20 before you lose your conditional seat at NSCA.

Once registered with D20, the NSCA registrar will notify you with a welcome letter and information about kindergarten readiness testing.

WHAT IS THE KINDERGARTEN READINESS ASSESSMENT?

The kindergarten readiness assessment looks at several areas of readiness, including academics, sensory, speech and language, behavior, self-help tasks, and social-emotional preparedness.  Since Kindergarteners vary widely in their incoming skill levels in all these areas, the more we know about them before the school year starts, the better we will be to meet their needs.

IS THE READINESS ASSESSMENT MANDATORY?

The kindergarten readiness assessment is voluntary. We want to utilize the information collected to balance our classrooms so that our teachers can best meet the needs of your student.

WHAT IS THE CUT-OFF DATE FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS?

Your Kindergartener must be five years old by August 15th.  Kindergarteners must have been born on or before this date in order to meet the age requirement to enroll in Kindergarten.  We know that some students will fall after that date and not be admitted.  This cut-off date is consistent with Academy District 20 and the Colorado Department of Education.

DO YOU HAVE HALF-DAY KINDERGARTEN?

No, at this time we do not offer a half-day kindergarten program.

HOW MANY RECESS TIMES DOES KINDERGARTEN HAVE? HOW LONG IS EACH?

Kindergartners have three recess times (morning, lunch, and afternoon).  Lunch recess is 20 minutes and the other two are 15 minutes.
